Looking for a cute idea to dress up that chest of drawers in your son or daughter’s room? Why not make a set of bottle cap door pulls? Bottle cap door pulls are inexpensive, quick, easy and enjoyable to make. Once they are done you just remove the old pulls and screw the new bottle cap door pulls in their place. Here is what you need to know to make your own bottle cap door pulls:
Materials Needed to Make Bottle Cap Door Pulls
Before starting this home decorating project you will need to gather together the following materials;
1 container clear casting resin
1 bottle bonding cement
1 box small screws
1 bottle white craft glue
1 single hole punch, 1 inch
1 package inkjet paper
1 computer system with printer and photo software
Collection of metal bottle caps, twist off variety
1 electric drill
1 pair safety goggles
1 pair tweezers
Step 1: Preparing the Bottle Caps
Don your safety goggles and grab your drill, a box of screws and some bottle caps. Carefully drill pilot holes in the center of each bottle cap. Insert one screw into each pilot hole. The pointed end of the screw should be extending out from the flush end of the bottle cap and the flush end of the screw should be nestled inside the concave section of the bottle cap. Place a small dab of bonding cement around the rim of the screw to seal any gaps between the screw’s head and the bottle cap.
Step 2: Decorating the Bottle Cap Door Pulls
Using the inkjet paper and computer, prepare and print a series of small round photo images. Once the images have been printed, cut them out using the one inch, single hole, paper punch. Place a dab of white craft glue on both the photo and the inside of the bottle cap. Insert the photo into the bottle cap. You may find tweezers helpful for this task. Once done, set the bottle caps aside while the glue dries. After the glue dries you may proceed to the next step.
Step 3: Casting the Bottle Cap Door Pulls
Prepare the clear casting resin according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Pour the prepared casting resin into each bottle cap until the resin reaches the bottle cap’s rim. Let the bottle caps sit undisturbed for 24 to 36 hours while the resin dries. Once the resin dries completely, the bottle cap door pulls will be ready for use.
